Verragio was founded in New York in the mid-1990s by designer Barry Verragio, who came out of a jewelry manufacturing background and started the company around a single idea: that the parts of a ring nobody photographs are the parts worth engineering. That thinking produced the brand's most recognizable trait, a sculptural side profile and gallery so detailed that Verragio rings are frequently identified from the side rather than the top.

It also produced the patented Lumino setting, engineered so that more light reaches the underside of the center stone. The practical result is a center diamond that reads brighter and often larger than its carat weight suggests. Verragio has continued to hold patents on its setting and design work, which is unusual in an industry where most silhouettes are shared.
