Le Vian's family history in gemstones runs back centuries. The LeVian family traces its trade to Persia, where ancestors supplied gems to royal courts, and the family carried that business through generations and across continents before establishing the modern company in the United States. Few jewelry houses can claim a lineage that long, and the family still runs the company today.

The brand's defining move came much more recently. Natural brown diamonds had been dismissed by the industry for decades, treated as industrial material rather than gemstones. Le Vian looked at the same stones, gave them a name, built a grading standard around them, and created Chocolate Diamonds. It is one of the few genuine category inventions in modern jewelry, and it turned an overlooked material into a red carpet fixture.

To complete the palette, Le Vian developed its own proprietary metals including Strawberry Gold, Honey Gold, and Vanilla Gold, so the settings are designed around the stones rather than borrowed from white diamond jewelry.
